Feeling Overwhelmed by Networking?

Networking is more than small talks at big events

I used to think networking meant going to big events and making small talk with strangers, but there's a whole world of networking beyond that and I want to share some of my own learnings with you.

Lessons from my networking journey:

Networking to Meet New People: Skip big events and focus on creating meaningful 1:1 connections. Reach out to interesting individuals here on LinkedIn or ask for an intro if you share mutual connections. Remember, networking is a two-way street—it's about what you can offer as much as what you can gain.

Take Care of Your Existing Network: Reconnect with former colleagues, event acquaintances, or past professional contacts. Reviving old connections can lead to unexpected collaborations and learnings.

Leverage Your Network: If you're interested in a particular company, topic, course, or training, don't hesitate to ask your network for help. Reach out to your connections and inquire if they know anyone in your area of interest. You can even ask for an introduction to someone they are connected with. Remember, it's okay if they prefer not to; the key is to ask.

Let's Help Each Other: Networking is all about mutual support. Share your knowledge, expertise, and connections with others in your network. Together, we can create a community of learning and growth. Everyone has something valuable to offer.

For me networking is not just about expanding my circle; it's about creating meaningful relationships. So I encourage everyone to start finding 1:1 connections from your network, either old or new ones, and begin transforming networking from the idea of meaningless small talk in big groups into meaningful 1:1s of learning and sharing experiences!
